Erik graduated from the Tourism Opportunities Program in the year of 2001 with his eyes set on Hotel Management. After completing a summer practicum with the Tla’amin Nation recently acquired Lund Hotel, he went on to Marine Studies to obtain a license to run a zodiac tour vessel. In 2003 he started running a small water taxi business which turned into a love for the water and showing people around his traditional territory by boat. In 2004 he partnered with a local tour company which did not offer boat tours at the time, and purchased a zodiac to run 3-6 hour tours of the area. At the same time Erik was managing a local seafood restaurant which taught him some crucial lessons about the food and beverage industry that he would need later in life.
Erik is the past President of the hotel which started his career in the tourism and hospitality industry and owns three of his own businesses, two of which are successful award winning businesses in the province of BC. Sli City Grill is an award winning grill style restaurant serving some of the local areas favorite foods. Tla’amin Convenience Store is the store that gives more and has placed in the top 10 Businesses in the Province for Community Impact. The store is the recipient of the Aboriginal Business of the year award and runner up for Customer Service and Small Business of the year for 2015-2017 and received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the BC Aboriginal Achievement Awards. I’hos Cultural tours won the Cultural Tour of the year award in 2015 and was runner up for the Tour Company of the year in that years ceremony.
